The “UK Central Government INDEX: Q1 2017” is announced

London, 15th February 2017 – Sitemorse, publisher of industry wide indexes in compliance, optimisation and experience, today announced the publication of its UK Central Government INDEX for Q1 2017, and revealed that Natural Resources Wales has become the #1 ranking website.  The organisation has been appearing in the INDEX since Q2 2013, when it was ranked 78th, however this is the first time that it has reached the top position in its category.  The full report, which includes most improved and biggest fallers, can be accessed via the following link: https://sitemorse.com/index/uk-central-government/2017-q1.

“Natural Resources Wales has made such impressive progress in improving the quality of experience for all visitors to their website,” stated Lawrence Shaw, CEO of Sitemorse.  “It is a testament to their commitment to drive change to the digital publishing process within their organisation, and we are delighted to provide the tools to support this effort,” stated Shaw.

Natural Resources Wales is the largest Welsh Government Sponsored Body.  They are responsible for looking after the environment for people and nature in Wales. Their website is dual language (English and Welsh) and provides an important hub with live information about flood warnings, guidance for business to comply with environmental legislation, ideas for days out - and a lot more.  As such, they understand the importance of an error free website that is compliant with industry regulation and government legislation, not least because they also carry out certain Welsh Government functions.  Achieving a score of 8.24 (out of 10) is a significant achievement and demonstrates their commitment to providing the very best experience for visitors to their website.

Heledd Evans, Digital Manager at Natural Resources Wales said:

“We’re constantly working to improve our website so that people can find the information they need as quickly and as easily as possible.

“That includes making sure the site is accessible and usable for people using assistive technologies to navigate the web. The Sitemorse INDEX is one of the ways that we can benchmark and see where we need to make improvements.

“This time last year we were in 185th position, and over the past year our small in-house team has been chipping away to improve the accessibility of the site. Our score has improved by regular monitoring and focussing on fixing broken links, many of which were in PDFs uploaded to the site.”
