Website Benchmark - Banking Sites Report June 04. Top Co-op, bottom Abbey

Top of the League Table and best site overall was Co-operative Bank, with Birmingham Midshires in second place. At the bottom of the table for the 3rd month running was Abbey. HBOS plc, slowest performing site ever.

Accessibility testing
- Top site this month was Northern Bank
- 10 sites achieved greater than 90% compliance
- 6 sites scored between 50% and 90% compliance
- 17 sites scored less than 50% compliance, with 10 of the 16 sites achieving less than 5% compliance
- 4 sites had less than 1% compliance, Britannia, Portman, LloydsTSB and Abbey. Abbey being the worse site.


Function and Performance Testing

- The site with the lowest number of warnings (poor html) was Co-operative Bank (with 89). British Banking Association had the highest number of warnings with more than 66,000 indicating that site build quality is dropping. This also causes accessibility failures.

- Only one site was error free this month, LloydsTSB.

- 45% of the sites tested passed the basic metadata test for their front page.

- 36% of the sites tested passed basic speed tests for the front page, testing the site for modem, ADSL and network based users – a great improvement from last month.

- The site with the fastest overall server response time was British Banking Assoc, with an average page response time of 0.035 seconds. The site with the slowest response time was HBOS plc, with an average page response of over 47 seconds per page, the worse performance ever in a monthly group test.

- The site with the fastest download speed was the Bank of England; the slowest site was Abbey.

- The site with the most errors (again) was Coventry Building Society; with over 4,100 (even higher than last report) the site with the next highest number of errors was again the Alliance and Leicester.
