For the last 10 years we have been assessing the websites of London Listed PLCs based on User Experience, Search Engine Optimisation and Governance, Risk and Compliance. We publish the results in our London-Listed PLCs INDEX.
We publish our INDEX quarterly and ahead of the 2020 Q3 INDEX we thought we’d look back at the results from Q2. The INDEX shows previous results for up to 10 years, which can be viewed here: Q2 2020 London Listed PLCs INDEX
The 2020 Q2 London Listed PLCs INDEX was compiled following over 356 million tests checks and measures across over 1 million URLs.
Quilter PLC was the top ranked website in the INDEX, displacing Marston’s PLC from the position that they held for 15 consecutive quarters. The most improved website was that of Treatt PLC who rose an impressive 343 places.
Looking purely at Accessibility, Berkeley Group and Marston’s are leading the sector with Weir Group and Menzies having the only other websites to score 7 or above (out of 10).
Summarising accessibility scores we see that:
- Only 4 companies scored 7 or higher.
- 84% scored 4 or less.
- 37% actually scored zero
Comparing results with last quarter, 54 companies improved their accessibility score from the last quarter, while 50 scored lower. 10 companies failed all of the WCAG 2.1 Level A and AA tests on every single page.
Making a website accessible comes under the Equalities Act 2000. We’ve already seen that in the US that lawsuits alleging web sites discriminating against people with disabilities are increasingly common and there is no reason that the UK won’t face the similar lawsuits.
