At Sitemorse we published our 2020 Q1 Global Airlines - US connection this week. The INDEX has been published quarterly since 2018 and ranks the websites of over 39 that have a US connection, based on User Experience, Search Engine Optimisation and Governance, Risk and Compliance.

Congratulations to Icelandair for retaining first place. Also, congratulations are due to Uzbekistan Airways for being the most improved.

No airlines within the Global Airlines - US connection passed Level A and AA on all of their pages.

If we focus purely on Accessibility, then then we see that:

  • No airlines scored 7 or higher
  • 92% of airlines scored 4 or less
  • Over 15% actually scored zero

Comparing results with last quarter, 5 airlines improved their accessibility score from the last quarter, while 6 scored lower. Two airlines failed all of the WCAG 2.1 Level A and AA tests on every single page.

The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) is a landmark piece of legislation signed into law in 1990 that ensures that those with disabilities "have the same opportunities as everyone else to participate in the mainstream of American life," including purchasing goods and services. The ADA has been interpreted to apply to organizations' websites as well their physical stores.
