There are many organisations that are doing admirable work in making websites more accessible through their daily work and by providing regular advice to clients. These include digital agencies, law firms, UX and design consultancies, membership organisations, trade associations and other related service providers.

But there is still a lot of work for us all to do.  The truth is that when it comes to accessibility, many organisations do not have fully compliant websites.

The two enemies of accessibility

The two enemies of accessibility are most often lack of awareness and weak prioritisation. Many people inside organisations, particularly in more senior roles, just aren’t aware that their website might be non-compliant, until it becomes a burning issue due to a new piece of legislation.

The second issue is that those who are more aware of accessibility (generally the digital team) don’t make it a priority. There are all too often many other things to do which are regarded as being more commercially important. Accessibility compliance ends up too low on the “to do” list, exacerbated by many teams not quite knowing where to start.

Driving awareness among your clients

Sitemorse’s automated testing provides a unique opportunity for you to:

  • make your clients more aware about website accessibility
  • help them prioritise it as important
  • build on the good advice you may have already provided

What’s in it for your clients

Your clients will benefit from automated website accessibility testing in numerous ways. Firstly, you can help them become compliant and stay that way. They’ll also gain a great working knowledge of many of the everyday tasks that need to be completed to make a website accessible.

And it can also take the stress out of the whole process, because tasks are prioritised for the teams in bite-size, achievable steps.
