This week, Support Lead, Helen Grimbly will be looking at Page titles and metadata.

  • Title needs to be set on pages (including pages embedded via iframes). Titles are used to make a page more accessible - a screen reader can read out the title of the page to a user. It is extremely important for search engines, acting both as a high-priority source of search keywords and also the most prominent information displayed in search results. Not having a title set on a page (including PDF files) will affect the Sitemorse SEO score and Overall score. Missing titles also affect the Accessibility score.
  • "Meta description" fields are also useful for search engines and missing descriptions will have an effect on the Sitemorse SEO score and Overall score.
  • "Meta keywords" fields are entirely optional - they are not used by any major search engines. Sitemorse will indicate which of your pages do and do not have keywords, but this is for your information only and does not affect the scores.

Note: PDF titles can be set in Microsoft Word's properties before the file is exported to PDF, or edited in Adobe Acrobat's file properties dialog.
